This post is based within the Advice Shop where the successful candidate will work to promote financial inclusion and alleviate poverty through advice and advocacy in the areas of welfare benefits, money, housing and energy advice.

As part of a Macmillan Cancer Support funded project, you will be part of the Income maximisation team based at Bathgate Partnership Centre. The project provides a specialist income maximisation service for people affected by cancer, their families and carers receiving treatment through services at the Western General Hospital.

The main function of this role is to provide advice, advocacy and representation for patients, carers and health professionals at the Western General Hospital and to work in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support to ensure the customer is at the centre of a high-quality advice service.

The successful candidate will deliver training to colleagues and partners, organise information events, deliver talks & presentations to relevant groups.

The post holder should also have a high level of research and analytical skills, experience giving money/debt, benefits, energy or housing advice is essential. Experience organising events and delivering training desirable.

The successful candidate will also develop the service and deliver targeted campaigns.

Experience giving money/debt, benefits, energy or housing advice is desirable and the ability to research and use analytical skills is important.  Empathy, listening skills and understanding are vital to excel in the role. Training will be provided as part of the induction programme and ongoing training and support will be provided to the successful candidate.

Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council.
